Why You Need A Project Manager
So you have an amazing opportunity -- new customer segment, a vision of better unit economics, a new compliance challenge -- the list is long. You know the industry and you have a great team.
What could possibly go wrong!
Well, here are a few things.
Your team already has a job, and they are probably already stretched. Add one more thing and something will drop.
Without a robust analysis and requirements phase, you could end up building a Maserati when what you need is a flatbed truck
Internal teams may downplay or overlook risks to maintain status or avoid conflict. A PM pro will be objective and proactive
You might spend 90% of your project budget and discover you're at the halfway point to being done.
Your expert team may have critical blindspots with "unknown unknowns" in a new area that a professional PM will have tools to identify
Getting stakeholders at all levels engaged might be hard for your team to handle due to organizational dynamics

HEXO Special Sauce: Nail The Requirements
We know from experience that your chances of success are improved dramatically by conducting a thorough requirements analysis up front. Requirements analysis is the process of clearly defining what the project aims to achieve and identifying the resources, constraints, and steps necessary to get there. Skipping or rushing through this phase can result in rework, wasted resources, unmet expectations, lost opportunities, or even total project failure. Here's why it matters so much.
Stakeholder Expectations
Without a clear requirements analysis, stakeholders may have different ideas about what the project is supposed to achieve. This misalignment can lead to disagreements and dissatisfaction once the deliverables are presented.
Example: A company decides to migrate its outdated CRM system to a new platform. The marketing team expects the new system will instantly increase customer engagement, while the IT team anticipates a smooth and seamless data migration. Neither group considers the need for extensive training, process updates, or potential data compatibility issues.
Result: Failed launch, extensive rework period, frustrated team.
Scope Creep
A thorough requirements analysis defines the project’s boundaries. If these aren’t clear, teams can easily get bogged down with extra tasks outside the original scope.
Example: A company hires a team to develop a payroll system for their HR department. Midway through the project, the finance team requests additional functionality for budgeting and expense tracking, claiming it "makes sense to add it now."
Result: The additional features require redesigning parts of the software, delaying the project and increasing costs significantly.
Early Risk Identification
Skipping the Requirements phase makes it hard to foresee risks that could derail the project. Early analysis allows you to anticipate challenges and prepare mitigation strategies.
Example: A healthcare provider implements a new patient management system but doesn’t identify risks related to data migration from their legacy system. During the switchover, critical patient records are corrupted or lost.
Result: Operational chaos, legal liabilities, and significant time spent on recovery.
